Add program to the windows explore favorites group windows 7

Favorites is one of the group that is displayed in Windows Explorer on
Windows 7. The group lists several folders by default including the user
profile folder, recent places and downloads. While it is possible to add
new folders to the Favorites group, it is not possible to do the same with
program links. The message “Cannot place in Favorites” is displayed
when a user tries to drag and drop program shortcuts to the Favorites
Group.
Several programs have been added to the Favorites, including Microsoft
Word and Excel, Steam and some web browsers. You will be able to add
programs to the Favorites as well at the end of this guide.
Use the shortcut Windows-R to open a run window -> Enter the path
%userprofile%\Links into the form and hit enter afterwards ->You can
alternatively navigate to C:\Users\username\Links in Windows Explorer.
Once done drag and drop program links into the Windows Explorer
window.
You will notice that the programs that are dragged and dropped
this way appear immediately in the Favorites group. It is possible to drag
and drop from the start menu, the Windows desktop or another Windows
Explorer folder.
